Padova (Padua in English) is one of the oldest cities in Italy. It has a population of around 210,000 and borders on the Po Valley, at 30 kilometers west of Venice on the Bacchiglione River.
There are many sights to see in Padova - for example, the famous Basilica of St. Anthony with his tomb. The Prato della Valle is the third-largest square in all Europe. The University - with its famous Teatro Anatomico - is located at the city center. The Scrovegni Chapel is famous for its outstanding 13th and 14th Century frescoes by Giotto. Also well worth a visit are the Palazzo della Ragione and the Botanic Garden (picture) that dates from 1545 and is classified as UNESCO World Cultural Heritage. Also not to be missed is the Café Pedrocchi, the former meeting place of intellectuals. In the remains of the old castle later transformed into an astronomical observatory (Specola), which today houses the University's Astronomical Institute, a Museum relates the history of astronomy and how it used to be taught. by Wikipedia
