Verona has a population of around 250,000 and is the capital of the Province of Verona. The city lies on the Adige River some 59 meters above sea level, where the so-called 'Brenner line' meets the Padan plain. Not to be missed are the town center (UNESCO World Cultural Heritage), the Arena, and tributes to the world's most famous lovers, Romeo & Juliet.
Verona was founded in the pre-Christian era by the Rhaetians and the Euganeans. It was conquered by the Gallic clan of the Cenomans in 550 BC and became a Roman colony in 89 BC. The well-preserved amphitheater - the Arena - was built more than a century later.
Verona's importance as a political and economical hub is demonstrated by numerous monuments that can still be visited today - the Arena, the Roman Theater, the Gavi Arch, the Roman city gates of Porta Borsari and Porta Leoni with its archeological excavations, and the Scaligeri Tombs. by Wikipedia
